정태영 작가 작 '빛의 춘하추동'

정태영 사진전시회 '포토에세이 - 빛의 춘하추동 전' 전시 주제작인 ‘빛의 춘하추동’은 전라남도 무안의 국사봉 자락 군산동 숲의 빛을 춘하추동 4계절로 표현한 것이다.

그런데 이 작품은 세상을 바꾼 숨은 뜻이 있다. 실제로 세상과 사람을 바꾼 비밀을 담고 있다.

하나의 숲이 춘하추동으로 상징되는 생노병사와 그것 또한 끊임없이 생명으로 이어진다는 진리를 담고 있으며 작품에 새겨진 “빛이나 자연도 춘하추동이니, 내 의지도 쉴 틈 없으라”는 글로 숙연한 감동을 준다.

2017년 4월 28일 목포에서 열린 개인전 빛의 춘하추동 전에서 처음 선보인 주제 전시 작품으로 지금까지 극소수의 저명인사들이 각각 다른 크기, 다른 소재, 다른 아트 넘버로 소유하고 있는 정태영 작가의 명품으로 꼽힌다.

이 작품은 문재인 대통령이 출마하기 한달 전 쯤 대통령 후보일 때 작품을 소장하게 된 역사적 배경이 있는데, 당시 문 대통령은 "내가 처한 환경이 이 작품의 겨울 같다."고 했고, 정 작가는 "자연, 인간의 생노병사, 춘하추동은 자연의 진리처럼 대부분의 사람들이 다 알고 있는 자연의 진리이지만, 제가 이 작품에 넣은 여름과 겨울의 빛은 인위적으로 만들었고, 또 그것을 관람자들이 알게 하기 위해 여름의 빛은 창조적으로 쪼개 넣은 것입니다. 즉 사람이 내가 처한 상황이 여름이라면 여름이고 겨울이라면 겨울이니, 후보님 내가 이제는 은퇴하거나 물러나거나 쉴 겨울이 아니라, 열심히 뛸 봄이요하고 뛰면 뜻을 이룰 겁니다. 가장 중요한 것은 인간의 의지라는 철학을 담고 있습니다." 이렇게 조언을 했고, 문 후보는 "나에게도 봄과 여름이 왔으면 좋겠다"고 화답했다.

결국 문 후보는 대통령에 당선되었다.

이 작품을 소유한 몇 명의 명사들이 자신의 의지가 꺾일 때마다 작품을 보면서 의지를 불 태웠다.

정태영 작가는 작품을 소장한 문 후보가 대통령에 당선되자, 몇 년 동안 대중적인 작품 판매를 중지한 것으로도 유명하다.

이 작품은 그 철학적 의미가 심오해, 작가가 해석을 위해 글을 새겨 넣은 것으로 유명하며, 국제대회 등 어디에도 출품된 적이 없다. 작품의 왼쪽 아래 글귀 낙관이 앞면이 아니라, 옆면에 새겨져 있거나, 다른 글귀가 새겨져 있는 것도 있다.

정태영 작가는 이렇게 말한다.

"내(정태영 작가)가 설명을 안하면 세상의 누가 그 숨을 뜻을 알리. 단지 자연의 진리로만 알지"라고 설명한다.
